Ancient Tree Forum Wales is launched
Over 60 people have expressed an interest in joining the new Ancient Tree Forum Wales group, and their first event has now been held at Dinefwr in Carmarthenshire.
The event was opened by Brian Muelaner, Chair of the Ancient Tree Forum, and attendees were taken around the medieval deer park and flood plain, to look at the National Trust site’s ancient and veteran trees, by ranger Carol Bailey.
A meeting was also held, to start planning how to develop ATF Wales, which is led by Tracey Lovering of the Wales Biodiversity Partnership at Natural Resources Wales. A programme of future events is being planned for the group which will include visits to different types of site including parkland, orchards, parks and gardens, wood pasture and urban sites. It is hoped that ultimately ATF Wales will be able to positively influence Welsh policy in relation to tree protection and preservation.
The next meeting of ATF Wales will be held in North Wales, and is likely to take place in June 2015 (date to be confirmed).
