Join ATF London for a field visit to Richmond Park

This event is now full. Please Contact Us Here if you would like to go on our waiting list (please use the ‘bookings’ option on the dropdown).

Richmond Park is one of London’s eight Royal Parks. Enclosed as a deer park since 1637, today it contains over 1,300 veteran trees. It is London’s largest Site of Special Scientific Interest and is also a Special Area of Conservation and National Nature Reserve. The veteran trees, many of which are historic oak pollards, support a wide range of species including fungi, bats and invertebrates.

The guided walk will be led by members of the Richmond Park team, with contributions from other specialists. It will last approximately three hours and cover topics such as constraints and pressures on veteran tree management, sustainability of existing and new pollards; deadwood management, pest and disease including Oak Processionary Moth, bracken management and rhododendron clearance.

Please arrive for an 11am start. We will be meeting at Pembroke Lodge, where car parking is free.

There is a car park and toilet on site at the start and finish of the walk but no facilities during walk. There is also a kiosk and restaurant at start and finish for refreshments or alternatively please bring a packed lunch.

Dogs must be kept on leads as it is the deer birthing season.

The nearest railway station to Pembroke Lodge is Richmond, which is approximately 30 minutes walk. There is free parking at Pembroke Lodge. However, this car park is often very busy so please bear this in mind.
