Wood meadows and pastures conference

Location: Sheffield Hallam University

Christine Handley

The West Wood, Beverley

Professor George Peterken will be a key-note speaker at this conference, which will address the history and ecology of wood meadows and pastures, together with their conservation and the potential for re-creation of new areas.

The event will consider issues around the legacy of the veteran trees in these habitats and the management of younger trees to create ‘veterans’ for the future. Whilst focusing on the UK, there will be speakers from other European countries with different traditions of managing these areas.

The ATF is a partner, and speakers will include ATF’s founder president Ted Green, and co-opted supporters Luke Barley, who will be talking with Jamie Simpson about the creation of new pollards, and David Lovelace who will be looking at wood pasture landscapes in Herefordshire.
