Some of the oak trees in Ripley Castle‘s deer park are over a thousand years old. Amongst the most special ancient and veteran trees are a sweet chestnut tree in the grounds which has a DBH (diameter at breast height) of 27 feet,  an oak with a BHD of 28 feet (pictured above), and a majestic beech avenue in the park.
