Do you know the age of an enormous oak tree, sadly now dead, in Heydon Park, a short walk from the grain storage site.

I think I know the tree you’re talking about – If so, it was recorded onto the Ancient Tree Hunt website in 2007 (grid reference ST66471609) but has not yet been measured accurately. As you probably know, one of the methods of estimating the age of ancient trees is to measure the girth of their trunk – you can see some information about doing this at the bottom of this page: http://www.ancienttreeforum.co.uk/ancient-trees/what-are-ancient-veteran-trees/. It’s certainly a very significant ancient tree – very sad that its no longer living, but still of great value.
